Certification requirements for all coaches!

Clinics

COACH 1- INTRO COACH - The Coach 1- Intro to Coach clinic is for Initiation Instructors/Coaches and Novice Coaches.  The Intro to Coach clinic includes the Hockey University Online Course and an in person clinic which includes both a classroom and on ice instruction.  

The following prerequisites need to be completed before registering for the Coach 1- Intro to Coach classroom and ice session:

1. Criminal Record Check completed between 2015-2017 turned into HNO (must be done every three years)
2. Respect in Sport Activity Leader Certification
 *       
3. Gender Identity and Expression Course
 
4. Hockey University Coach 1 & 2 Online Module *

 

NOTE:  *If you have taken the Hockey University Coach 1/2 or Respect in Sport Activity Leader Certification previously you do not need to take it again before registering for the Coach 1-Intro to Coach clinic. 

COACH 2- COACH LEVEL - The Coach 2- Coach Level clinic is the minimum requirement for the Head Coach on the staff of a team at the "A" level and below from Atom to Midget, all 'AA' Assistant Coaches and all Junior "B" Assistant Coaches. 

(It is recommended for all assistant coaches to obtain Coach-2 Coach Level trained status.)

The Coach 2- Coach Clinic also includes the Instructional Checking Stream which is required for Head Coaches from Atom to Bantam, the in person clinic includes a classroom session and on ice instruction.  

The following prerequisites need to be completed before registering for the Coach 2- Coach classroom and ice session:

1. Criminal Record Check completed between 2015-2017 turned into HNO (must be done every three years)
2. Respect in Sport Activity Leader Certification or the old Speak Out course

COACH- DEVELOPMENT 1 - The Coach- Development 1 certification is mandatory for all ''AA' and Junior "B" Head Coaches. Bantam, Midget  "AAA" and Junior "A" Assistant Coaches will require Coach- Development 1 trained status.

The Coach- Development 1 also includes the Instructional Checking Stream which is required for Head Coaches from Atom to Bantam, the in person clinic includes a classroom session and on ice instruction. 

(It is recommended for all "AA" and Junior "B" assistant coaches to obtain Coach-Development 1 trained status.)

Hockey University- Coaches

ONLINE COACH TRAINING MODULES


Hockey University (HU) is an online training component for team staff (coaches) across the country. HU allows us to provide quality learning with a standard delivery message in servicing our members, specifically team staff and officials. With the use of online education, volunteers in Northwestern Ontario (and across the country) will now receive a consistent and user friendly educational program accessible at the convenience of the user.

Over the past several years there has been many requests to provide an online service for coach training, Hockey Canada and Hockey Northwestern Ontario are pleased to now offer this flexibility and convenience to our members. Online education will benefit our volunteers in a number of ways – bringing hockey education into the 20th Century!

HNO requires all Coach 1 & Coach 2 Level candidates to complete the 4 hour online component PRIOR to registering and attending an in-person clinic which includes an ice session. 

Once available, Hockey University – which includes  Coach Level and Officials educational information, will be accessible through your eHockey accounts. The program, which consists of 12 modules for coaching and has been designed to allows individuals to complete at their convenience and may be revisited at any time during the year. However, it is strongly encouarged to complete all of the HU modules immediately upon receiving your coaching position so that you may have the best chance to register in the clinic that is most convenient for you. You must complete the HU segement before eHockey will allow you to register for a clinic.
