The KC Golden Knights are Champs!!

The KC Golden Knights got their season off to a great start by going a perfect 6 for 6 this past weekend at the year's first tournament in Thunder Bay! 

The Knights put together an awesome round robin by outscoring their opposition 21-6 in four games, qualifying for the semifinals as the #1 seed in their pool.  The semifinal would see them take on the Neebing Hawks, who had previously dispatched the KC Red Wings 7-5 in the quarterfinal.  A 2-1 nailbiter of a win sent the Golden Knights to the final, where they would take on an unexpected opponent in the Westfort Mavericks, who had gutted out a 2-1 win over the NorWest Stars.

Sunday afternoon's final wouldn't get off to the desired start, as the Mavericks opened scoring early to take a 1-0 lead.  Brady Sgambelluri answered quickly to get the Golden Knights on the board two minutes into the game, and then scored again with five minutes left in the first period to give the Knights their first lead of the game...both goals were assisted by Austin Wells.  Luke Vaillancourt scored in the second to give the Golden Knights a bit of breathing room, and then the insurance goal came on a breakaway from Jayce Lavallee to stretch the lead to 4-1.

Aiden Scott put in a strong showing between the pipes for the Golden Knights behind a solid defensive core, and the offense really came together in a display of great teamwork.
