KC PWAA Sabres Are the Gopher State Presidents Cup Champs!

The KC Peewee AA Sabres returned home from Minneapolis as Champions, after capturing the Gopher State President’s Cup tournament title.

After a hard fought 4-2 win against the North Carolina Force, the Sabres earned a rematch against the Minnetonka Skippers, who had squeaked out 2-1 win over the Sabres during round robin play.  The final would see the Sabres jump out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Nico Simeoni and Evan Simeoni.  After Minnetonka equalized the score at 2-2, the teams headed into the 3rd period tied.  The Sabres wouldn’t be denied, with Captain Dawson Boone scoring the winner with a blast from the point that beat the Minnetonka goalie with 1:51 to play. From there, Sabres goalie Logan Briggs shut the door for the victory.  Congratulations, Sabres!

There have been other great results on the road for KC teams this month as well!

The PW Canadiens posted a dominant round robin record in Dryden, going 4-0 (outscoring the opposition 23-1), to advance first out of thirteen teams going into the playoffs.  After winning their semifinal 4-1, they outplayed their heavily favoured Elks Citi Centre opponents in the final, only to fall short 3-1 in an exciting game.  Congrats to the Canadiens on a strong silver medal finish!

Elsewhere in Minnesota this past weekend, the KC Devils returned to Eden Prairie as defending champions, and finished strong with an 8-1 win over Armstrong City in the third-place match to bring home the bronze (love that eagle trophy)!   Congrats to the Devils on a great weekend!

Congratulations also go out to the Atom AA Sabres, who were playing in Minneapolis this past weekend, and finished second in the Gopher State President's Cup Squirt A division.  Well done, Sabres!
