2022-03-17

KC Canadiens salute their fans after winning the regular season crown, with their sticks proudly taped in blue and yellow to show their support for Ukraine.

The regular season has come to an end...it's playoff time!

The regular season came to an end last week for both Lakehead Minor and Thunder Bay Minor hockey teams, and now...it's playoff time!

In U11A play, the KC Whalers finished the regular season with a record of 8 wins, 3 losses, and 5 ties.  This put them in third place in the 11-team league, and qualified them for the Gold division of the playoffs, where they have started with a win and a loss.  The Whalers also had numerous strong showings in tournaments, regularly making the playoffs, and finishing with two second-place finishes and one third-place finish.  Great job, Whalers!

In U11AA play, the KC Sabres had a very strong season, and finished tied for first place with an 11-4-1 record.  The Sabres have started their playoffs with two straight wins, outscoring their opposition by 10 goals.  Great work, Sabres...keep it up!!

In U13A play, the KC Canadiens finished as regular season champions with an excellent 16-2-2 record.  Special mention goes to the Canadiens goalie, Keanu, who posted an amazing 7 shutouts this season!  The whole team showed excellent work ethic and teamwork all season, and wore their hearts on their sleeves AND their stick blades in their last game, proudly taping their sticks in blue and yellow to show support for Ukraine.  The KC Golden Knights battled more than their fair share of injuries and COVID-related absences, and finished the season with a 5-10-5 record.  The boys never gave up all year, and finished the season with a strong stretch of games leading into the playoffs, where they opened with a 4-2 win.  The Golden Knights have sewn blue and yellow ribbons on their jerseys for the remainder of the playoffs, and will be selling the ribbons at their remaining games to help raise money for the Red Cross Ukrainian Relief Fund.

In U13AA play, the KC Sabres finished with a 10-8-2 record, good for second place in the 6-team league.  The Sabres also brought home the gold in the Norwest Stars of Tomorrow tournament, including a semifinal win over the Neebing Hawks, who didn't lose in 20 regular season games -- quite an accomplishment!  The Sabres have started their playoffs in good form, with a win and a tie in their first two games.  Keep it up, Sabres!

Last, but not least, the U15A KC Sabres had a strong regular season, finishing third out of nine Thunder Bay teams with a 15-6-7 record.  The Sabres ran off a remarkable 19-game unbeaten streak mid-season, that included a thrilling championship win at the Norwest Stars of Tomorrow Tournament.  They'll kick off their playoffs Sunday night against the PA Westfort Maroons.  Good luck, Sabres!

KC Canadiens are the regular season champions in the U13A division!

KC Golden Knights' families will be selling these blue and gold ribbons during their upcoming playoff games for $2 each to raise money for the Red Cross Ukrainian Relief Fund.
