The U11A KC Devils are Ice Bowl Champs!

The U11A KC Devils came out victorious in St. Paul, MN this past weekend at the 2024 Ice Bowl Tournament, with all the games being played at the Minnesota Wild practice facility (TRIA Arena).

The Devils drew one of the strongest teams in the tournament as their competition for the first game. Led by the forecheck of Chippy Dougie Janiec, the Devils came out flying, but found themselves down 2-0 after the first. The defence, led by No Fear Trip Wolframe and Speedster Everett Picard decided to shut things down. They had help from an offensive outburst by Smooth Skating Charlie Hautenen, who managed 2 goals in the second, to tie it up.  Minnetonka would take the lead once more, only to have the Devils tie it up again and force the game to a shootout, where Cool Hands Luke Humphreys would put the game away in thrilling fashion, as the 3rd and final shooter.

The second game is where the Devils would showcase their defensive side. From The Wall Hunter Melnyk, to the Rocket Launcher Jack Kainulainen and Take No Prisoners Cody Collins, they gave the Lakeville South team no time and space. The forwards did a great job forcing the play, from Stick Lifting Karlee Stuckless, to the Charging Bull Nathan Greenwald, they barrelled down on the competition’s defence, and came out on top 3-1.

In the championship game against the undefeated Eagan team, the Devils defence, led by Bomb Blasting Ryan Barkwell, once again protected the house vigorously. The forwards somehow managed to have their hardest working game yet, led by Tenacious Isaac Stein-Sitch, Corner King Brayden Collins and Feisty Ailee Dahlstrom. We scored first but Eagan wasted little time tying it up. Lucky for us Sharp Shooter Nolan Papineau saved his best game for last and potted 2 more to complete the hatty. From there, the team as a whole gave Eagan everything they could handle to maintain that 3-1 to the final buzzer!

The fact that the Devils were able to pull off the Championship win even without the Dynamic Grace Richards on defence made this weekend's feat even more impressive!

Congratulations KC Devils on a great tournament!
