KC Red Wings Are Champs!

They say it's great to be home for the holidays...but why stay home when you can go celebrate Thanksgiving in Minnesota?  The KC Red Wings did just that...heading South on I-35 to Blaine for the Super Rink Spectacular, and it was definitely worth the trip.

The Wings opened their tournament early Friday morning, with an 8:40am game against a tough Lakeville North Red squad.  KC would get out to an early 2-0 lead, only to have Lakeville come back strong and answer with four consecutive goals.  Not a group to ever give up, the Red Wings would strike back with two more of their own, to tie the game 4-4, which is how it would go into the books.

Later Friday, the Wings were back on the ice against Jefferson.  Undeterred by their early morning, KC showed they had plenty left in the tank, and flexed their muscle with a convincing 5-0 win. 

Saturday morning saw a 7:00am face-off (yikes!) against Anoka, who came into the game with an undefeated record of their own.  With a spot in Sunday's championship final on the line, the Red Wings kept rolling, riding the hot play of Mason deGooijer to the tune of a second consecutive shutout, with a 2-0 win.

The championship final would bring a rematch of the tournament's opening game, with the Wings once again facing off against Lakeville North.  This time, the Americans would open the scoring, only to have the Red Wings dig deep and reel off three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead, and not looking back.  Three different KC skaters hit the score sheet, with Paige Spring netting the game winner to seal the Wings' title win.
